It has been a crazy season on American Idol, ripe with upsets and unexpected turns. All yap.TV users can see this activity going on live from our app, check it out on IOS for free. Since the introduction of yap.TV Pulse, we have seen a consistent chasm between Twitter sentiment of show fans and the actual voting results. We have chalked up some of this to slight demographic gaps between American Idol and Twitter, but in reality this really doesn’t tell the entire story. American Idol did introduce web voting this season, but also still allows multiple votes per person (imagine if we did this in presidential elections), which seems suspect in all of this given the enormous gap between sentiment and results.
Here are the results from last night’s final showdown between Lauren and Scotty, and if our predictions are proved correct again (see the Twitter curse) than Scotty will be crowned the winner, our next American Idol.

We had originally thought that real user sentiment would track fairly closely to real voting results, but clearly there exists a discrepancy. We are adding many advancements into Pulse that will be rolled out in other reality and/or competition shows soon, which you can play with in our yap.TV for IOS app. Did we mention it’s free?
